The sievert (and its smaller unit, the millisievert) is the SI unit for radiation equivalent dose, used internationally and in most modern scientific and medical contexts. Rem (and millirem) is an older unit still used in some US regulatory and occupational contexts. This converter covers equivalent dose only, used for assessing biological radiation exposure, not the separate concept of radioactivity (measured in becquerels or curies).
