This calculator finds the room's wall area by multiplying the perimeter (2 × (length + width)) by the wall height, then subtracts a standard estimated area for each door (about 21 sq ft) and window (about 15 sq ft) you specify. That net area is multiplied by your number of coats, then divided by your paint's coverage rate per gallon and rounded up to a whole gallon.
Most paint covers around 350-400 sq ft per gallon on a smooth, primed surface, but this varies by paint brand, sheen, and the porosity or texture of your walls. Check your specific paint can's label for its stated coverage rate for the most accurate estimate.
