This tool reads your JPEG file's raw bytes directly in your browser and parses its EXIF metadata segment following the TIFF/EXIF specification's tag structure, no upload, and no third-party library involved. It currently supports JPEG files, the most common format for camera and phone photos to carry EXIF data.
EXIF metadata can include the camera make and model, exposure time, f-number (aperture), ISO speed, focal length, orientation, and the date and time the photo was taken. Some photos also include GPS location data, though this tool focuses on the camera and exposure details most people are looking for.
Many images have their EXIF metadata stripped already, either by the platform they were downloaded from (social media and messaging apps commonly strip it), a previous edit, or because they were never a camera photo to begin with (like a screenshot or a graphic).
No, this tool currently supports JPEG files only, since JPEG's EXIF-in-APP1-segment structure is what this parser reads. JPEG is by far the most common format for photos carrying EXIF data from cameras and phones.
