To find the difference between two dates, this tool counts the exact number of calendar days, then converts that into complete years, months and remaining days, the same way you'd count age or a duration by hand, but automated and accounting for leap years and varying month lengths.
For example, from January 1, 2026 to July 15, 2026 is 195 days, or 6 months and 14 days when broken into a years/months/days format.
Alongside the years/months/days breakdown, this date duration calculator also shows the total number of weeks and total number of days between the two dates, useful for project planning, tracking deadlines, or calculating someone's exact age in days rather than years.
Expecting the years/months/days breakdown to add up the same way as a flat day-count divided by 365, months have different lengths, so 195 days works out to 6 months 14 days, not a clean fraction of a year.
Assuming the total weeks figure is always a whole number of the total days divided evenly, total weeks is the floor of total days ÷ 7, a remainder of a few days is simply dropped from that particular figure.
Entering the same date as both start and end and expecting an error, this is a valid input that correctly returns a zero difference across every field.
No. The calculator automatically detects which date is earlier and calculates the difference correctly regardless of the order you enter them.
Yes, both dates can be in the future, the past, or one of each.
